In Loving Memory

James (Jim) Floyd Metcalf, Jr.

November 16, 1943 – June 11, 2025

James (Jim) Floyd Metcalf, Jr. beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on November 16, 1943, in David, Panama, Jim lived a life full of love, dedication, and achievement.

Jim's early years were spent in Panama, where he graduated from Balboa High School. His journey then took him to the United States, where he served as a Communications Specialist in the Air Force. Following his service, he pursued higher education and earned his Bachelor of Business Studies from McNeese State College.

Jim's professional life was marked by a series of accomplishments. He worked for the Army and Air Force Exchange and as an Auditor for Foley's before venturing into entrepreneurship. In 1984, alongside his partners Bobby and Lynn Bridges, Jim founded Filter Resources, Inc., Fabrication Specialties, and Filtration Inc. The companies grew to be successful ventures, and in 2014, they were sold to a public company, allowing Jim to retire with pride in his achievements.

Beyond his professional successes, Jim was known for his warmth and generosity. A hardworking individual and devoted family man, he found his greatest joy in spending time with his loved ones. Always the life of the party, Jim's caring nature and willingness to lend a hand left a lasting impact on those around him.

He was preceded in death by his father, James F. Metcalf, Sr., his mother, Cecilia Metcalf, his father-in-law, David Lee Elliott and his mother-in-law, Ruby Arlene Elliott.

Jim is survived by his loving wife Janice Elliott Metcalf;  his cherished daughter, Julie Michael and her husband Joel; his grandchildren, Jenna Sowa, Jordan Sowa, Trace Michael, Shelby and Devon Titzman; brother-in-law, Don Ellioitt and his wife Bonnie Elliott; niece, Amy Spooner and family and nephew, Jeff Elliott and family; and his extended family, Jon and Kami Michael, Ava Michael and Allie Michael.

His memory will be fondly remembered by family and friends, who were fortunate to share in his laughter and love.

Jim lived a life of faith and kindness. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him, and his presence will be dearly missed.

We would like to thank Joyce and David Rhoades of Chester House and Absolute Hospice for their kind and loving support in Jim’s last days. Friends are cordially invited to the visitation with the family on Monday, June 16, 2025 from 2:00 P.M. – 3:00 P.M. with the funeral service to begin at 3:00 P.M. at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. 1. He was such a wonderful man. So very kind and loving. When he came in to be with us, you could feel the warmth of his heart! The love he had for his family was first and foremost on his mind and heart his entire stay. We only wish we could have known him earlier in his life. It was our complete honor to be able to have him at such a time in his life. All of us at Chester House grieve for all of you. Our prayer is that you know how much he loved you and spoke of all of you so often. Praying you have peace in knowing he is now at our Lord and savior’s side. He is now your angel and along side each of you every moment. God bless and keep you always. Love, Joyce, David, Jayne. Jan, Jessica, Ashley, and Yaya. 🙏💕

Jan, I am so sorry to hear of Jim’s death. I know how you are feeling right now. My loss of Richard broke my heart after being married for 54 years. It’s not going to be easy for you… sleeping alone, eating alone, smelling his scent…. His spirit will be there with you. You are an amazing woman and time will go on. Stay your beautiful self. God sends angels to help us. Much love to you old friend.
