Harold Lloyd Whitaker, 91, of Friendswood, Texas passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2023. He was born in Southport, Indiana into a family of 10 children. The family farmed various crops and raised livestock during their lifetime.
Harold served in the U.S. Airforce during the time of the Korean War. Harold’s life was one of service to his community. Some of his accomplishments included serving on the Friendswood ISD Board, on several committees and boards for the City of Friendswood and as Mayor for the City from 1997 – 2003. He served on the Galveston County Central Appraisal District and the Galveston County Consolidated Drainage District Board.
Harold and his wife, Ann, were partners in opening and operating the first Western Wear store, Boots ‘N Britches, in Friendswood in the mid 1970’s.
Some of his favorite pastimes were watching Friendswood High School sports and college sports.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents and 8 siblings and survived by his wife of 72 years, Ann, brother Donald Whitaker and 5 children: Ralph (Vickie) Whitaker, Dawn (Herschel) Glasgow, Sharon Collier, Karen (Darryl, Jr.) McDonald, Greg (Diane) Whitaker, 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

A great man. My family honors him. Best neighbor that you could ever have. Cared about his family, his friends and the City of Friendswood.
It was a joy to know him.

Over the years I’ve always had great respect for Harold. I first remember meeting Harold at a Chamber of Commerce Event in the 80’s. Every time after that day when we saw each other, whether it was an event or at the supermarket we made our way over to each other and share a handshake and greeting. Harold will be missed.
The Whittaker’s were one of the first families we meet when we move to friendswood in 1971. Loved going to boots and britches also. Prayers for the family Harold will truly be missed

Ann and the Whitaker family-we were very sorry to learn of Harold's passing. Whenever we go by the house we always look in your direction and think of you both. We wish to send our condolences to you and your family on your loss and will always remember the school car pooling of our kids and the visits to your home. Barbara and I will not be able to attend the service due to Barb's cataract surgery already scheduled for the same time. We will be keeping you and your family in our thoughts Thursday and in the day's ahead.
Our Love and sympathy are with you,
Roy and Barbara Brown
Prayers of comfort for Ann and family. Harold was truly a blessing to the city of Friendswood and all… Thankful for all he did to help make it the great city it is today. An honorable man in every way.
Ann and Harold have been across the street neighbors and dear friends for more than 37 years. Age does not lessen the loss we all feel in Harold's passing. He was vital until the end, and we cannot imagine his passing being any other way than peaceful. His accomplishments in life, and legacies are boundless. I will miss his wisdom, that he was always wiling to share. We will all miss him, and send our love and support to Ann, and all the Whitaker family.
My sincere condolences to Mrs. Whitaker, Sharon, Karen, Greg and the entire Whitaker family. Such a wonderful family man and lifelong friend. Sending hugs and prayers for continued strength and comfort.
Love, Cheryll Grainger
