Guy Travis Dickson Jr.

August 25, 1936 – April 17, 2025

Guy Travis Dickson, Jr., age 88, of Houston, Texas, passed away April 17, 2025. Born on August 25, 1936, in Waco, Texas, Guy lived a life marked by service, family, and unwavering faith.

A proud veteran, Guy served first in the U.S. Army then in the U.S. Navy. Afterwards, he continued serving his country through the Naval Reserves where he retired with the distinguished rank of Commander. His dedication to his country reflected his deep sense of duty and honor and his love of his fellow man.

After his military career and additional education, Guy devoted most of his professional life to helping families honor and say goodbye to their loved ones’ work he considered to be his personal ministry. His compassion, empathy, and calming presence brought comfort to countless individuals during their most difficult moments.

Outside of his work, Guy enjoyed college football, especially cheering for his beloved University of Texas Longhorns and dabbled in brewing homemade beer. He also treasured time spent with family, particularly outings with his grandsons to go fishing or visit the shooting range. His wisdom, patience, and quiet strength made a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Guy was preceded in death by his biological father, Guy Travis Dickson Sr.; his mother, Pauline Bills Lucas; and his father, Jack Lucas.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sherry Dickson of Houston, Texas his three sisters: Jackie L. Monroe and husband Tim Monroe of Granbury, Texas, Diedra P. Curb and husband Marvin N. Curb of Granbury, Texas, Jean Cook of Weatherford, Texas.

His children: Daughter Betty L. Turpin and husband John T. Cunningham of Shaker Heights, Ohio, Son Bryan Dickson and wife Carlene Creane of Titusville, Florida, Son Adon Powell and wife Deeann Powell of Arlington, Texas, and his six beloved grandsons: William B. Turpin, Guy Zachary Dickson, Matthew Travis Dickson, Daniel Travis Powell, Jesse Adon Powell, and Benjamin Robert Powell.

Guy leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, service, and faith. He will be dearly missed and forever remembered by those who were fortunate to know him.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at 10:30 AM at the Houston National Cemetery 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038.

    So sorry that you have had to endure this time of life, but I believe Grace will abound. It has taken five years, but I can now remember those six digit numbers needed to access accounts. Be patient with yourself and take things slowly. There is a lot to process emotionally.
