July 15, 1930 – October 12, 2023
Glynn Lee Draper (known as Pepaw by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren) reunited with his Heavenly Father on October 12, 2023, at the age of 93. Glynn was born in Houston, Texas to Glyndon and Lee Ora Draper on July 15, 1930.
Glynn graduated from Stephen F Austin High School in 1948 and attended the University of Texas in Austin for a brief time following graduation. However, as he said, he was “too interested in a certain beautiful girl to worry about school”, so after one year of college he decided to marry that beautiful girl, Dorla Davis, on July 1, 1949. He accepted a position with Brown and Root and then the newly married couple settled in Houston, where they raised their three boys, Larry, Gary, and Barry. When Glynn retired from his over 35 years of service at Brown and Root, he and Dorla moved to Field Creek where they spent the next 3 decades enjoying the wide-open spaces and simple pleasures of country life.
Glynn felt most at home in the great outdoors. He cultivated the most beautiful gardens every year, producing countless fruits and vegetables that he would share with his family, neighbors, and friends, as there was always more than he and Dorla could ever eat. His “green thumb” extended outside of his gardens to his lush flowerbeds and carefully manicured lawns. He loved and cared for all animals. He enjoyed watching the various species of birds that frequented their yard, providing places for them to feed and bathe across the property. Each evening, deer could always be found approaching the back fence knowing that Glynn would be out shortly to feed them. Of all God’s creatures, the one that he loved and cared for the most was his cherished cat, Pedro, who was more dog than cat in many ways!
Glynn found pleasure in many indoor activities as well. He loved woodworking and would spend hours upon hours in his meticulously organized shop building all types of things from holiday yard signs to stained glass. After dinner he would retreat to his recliner where he loved to relax and watch the British comedy, “Keeping Up Appearances”, “Mollie B’s Polka Party”, and lots of Jay Leno to close out each night.
Glynn lived a long and fulfilling life with his beloved Dorla at his side, surrounded by the country life that they both loved. Upon Dorla’s passing in 2022, he moved to Pearland to be closer to family. He spent his final year of life on this earth enjoying frequent visits with his family, playing Bingo, making crafts, watching Westerns, and listening to music. Glynn was a kind, loving, and funny man that was loved by many.
Glynn was preceded in death by his parents and son, Barry. He is survived by his son Larry and wife Terri; son Gary and wife Judy; and son Barry’s widow, Robyn, grandchildren and great-grandchildren- Chris and wife, Erica (daughter- Brooke); Jennifer and husband, Donald (daughters -Mara and Graisa); Andrew and wife, Kirsten; Laura and husband, Justin (son- Noah); Jody and wife, Jessica (sons- Dade, Seth, daughter- Rachel); Cody and wife, Lauren (son- Bennett, daughter- Ellis); Christopher and wife Missy (sons- Brody and Bryce).
