January 26, 1939 – March 23, 2022
Gerald Allen Fly died peacefully with his family by his side on March 23, 2022. Gerald is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley Lorraine, two sons, Gerald Jr, Larry and two daughters, Pam and Janet and both grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Gerald was born in Amarillo, Texas on January 26th, 1939. He graduated from Spring Branch High School in 1957 and later attended the University of Houston where he majored in Physics. He always had rich stories to tell about his childhood memories growing up in Amarillo and would say to his children, pick anywhere to live but don’t pick Amarillo.
Gerald loved the ocean and later in life would take small trips (by himself) to the coast just to watch the ships come in. He also loved fishing and was ready and eager to get to the jetties to catch trout and redfish anytime the weather was good.
Most importantly, Gerald loved the Lord and his family. He was an outstanding father who taught his children (and everyone he encountered) the true meaning of love, sacrifice, forgiveness, integrity, benevolence, and kindness. Gerald will be greatly missed, but his memory and the positive impact he had on everyone in his life will remain for generations. Gerald was and is a man to be emulated.
Gerald passes this life and moves into the loving and waiting arms of Jesus. He was the last remaining member of his family and was preceded in death by his father Francis, his mom Ida Mae, two brothers, Richard and David, sister Nancy, and his son Garry Wayne Fly.
An informal reception to celebrate Gerald’s life will be held with his close family.
