In Loving Memory

Gayle Donley Morris

September 2, 1939 – January 11, 2022

Gayle Donley Morris, aka, Daddy Gayle, 82, passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2022.  He was born September 2, 1939, in Monahans, Texas to Lloyd G. and Merle Morris.

Even though he spent his school years in the small New Mexico border town of Jal, Gayle was a proud West Texan and always keen to tell tall tales of the adventures of his youth.  Upon completing his education, he spent two years in the United States Army serving primarily in Germany.  Following his service, Gayle’s work took him to several cities before finally settling to raise his family in Alvin, TX.   Gayle spent most of his adult life in the Oil, Gas and Petrochemical Construction industry and loved every minute of his time spent in this field as well as all the friends he made over the years.  He spent years volunteering for Alvin Girls’ Softball Association, coaching, umpiring, preparing fields as well as coaching boy’s youth baseball.

Gayle was a prolific and talented painter and loved sunshine and the outdoors.  His many hobbies included boating, fishing, golf, growing plumerias, and long-distance rides on his Harley Davidson.  What brought the biggest smile to Gayle’s face was his family.  Whether coaching the Girls softball team or youth baseball, having a meal with grandchildren, or dancing to old country music, Gayle was going to have a good time!  He was famous for his good natured, mostly G rated teasing that was usually accompanied by a knowing wink and a mischievous grin.

Gayle was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Dama Elaine Morris, his parents, and sister Gwen McKinney.  He is survived by his sister Jyl Parsons and her husband Mike, and his five children, Wes Van Bramer and his wife Bonnalee, Elise Morris, Elaine Morris and her husband Craig Phillips, Wade Morris and his wife Vicky Garcia, Lee Morris and his wife Lista.  Gayle had thirteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.  They were all his favorite!

The family offers special thanks to his caregiver, Bisi Lawal, who brought comfort and a smile to Gayle every day.

Friends are cordially invited to attend a visitation with the family at 2:00 P.M., with the funeral service celebrating Gayle's life to begin at 3:00 PM on Friday, January 14, 2022 at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood, Friendswood, TX.  A graveside service will be held in Jal, New Mexico on January 17, 2022 at 1:00 PM where he will be buried next to his loving wife of 37 years.

Condolences may be sent to the Morris family in care of Jeter Memorial Funeral Home at www.jeterfuneralhome.com.

We lost a really good one this time. Condolences to the family and friends does not say enough. I met, work with, and competed as a coach with Gayle in the Pony Youth Baseball Program, and was super pleased to have him carrying his part of the load. His cheerfulness was contagious, his leadership skills were impressive, and his teams wins were too many.
God speed to you and yours my friend.
