Florence Jean Pipes, age 87, passed away March 5, 2022 in Alvin, Texas.
Florence was born July 19, 1934 in Shreveport, Louisiana to parents Ruby Cornelia Cockrell and Thomas Eugene Pipes.
After graduating with her Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology in 1956, Florence traveled, lived, and taught in several places, some exotic, before stopping long enough to obtain her Masters degree. She obtained her Degree in Geological Sciences from LSU in Baton Rouge in 1965.
In 1965 Florence made her way to Houston, Texas, working for M.D. Anderson Hospital, then she turned her endeavors to NASA, Johnson Space Center for 8 years experiencing firsthand “moon dust” and getting to know some of the astronauts. Florence then obtained a career at Alvin Community College, launching and credentialing the Laboratory Program at Alvin Community College. Florence worked at ACC for several years gaining the respect, due to her extensive knowledge and her work ethic. She retired with many accolades from the College in 1998.
She is preceded in death by her parents Thomas Eugene and Ruby Cornelia Cockrell Pipes. Florence is survived, by her loving and caring family and friends.
She loved cats and lived in Clear Lake before residing in Alvin at Evening Star where she kept up with her daily CNN news and enjoyed playing Bingo (as long as she won!). She also had a bobble head collection that was well over 25 on display and counting.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Thursday March 10, 2022 at the Jeter Memorial Funeral Home located at 311 N. Friendswood Dr. Friendswood, Texas 77546. Graveside services are scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Monday March 14, 2022 at Forest Park Cemetery, located at 3700 St. Vincent Avenue Shreveport, Louisiana.
