In Loving Memory

Earline Butler

August 20, 1925 – November 5, 2021

Earline Butler, age 96, of Alvin, gained her wings on November 5, 2021. She was born in Pleak, Texas, then moved to Falfurrias, Texas where she graduated from High School. She then moved to Corpus Christi where she met her husband, Audrey Lynn Butler. After many years of living there and having their first child, Andrea Lynn Butler, they then moved to Pt La Hatche, Louisiana where their second child, Brian Alan Butler was born. After living on the bayou for much of their life with their children they then moved to Alvin, Texas where they finished their lives.

Earline worked for Brazoria County for many years and into her 80s. This is where she developed her name ‘Sarge’ as she was known to be somewhat bossy! She also grew some of her best relationship that turned into lifelong friendships. The day of her retirement, the Brazoria county commissioners court proclaimed November 17th as Earline Butler Day for 33 years of service.

She was also a devoted member of the Manvel First Baptist for over 40 years. Throughout all of her years, she remained true to her faith through Jesus Christ her savior. She would have her Sunday school class over every Sunday after church for coffee and pie.

After raising her two children, she soon became a grandmother known as Mema. This was her new valued title that most knew her by as of today. She was always there for her grandkids whenever needed. She would stop in her tracks to help in anyway when it came to them.

Now as Mema, she became quiet the fashionista where she would never leave the house without her hair, makeup, and outfits looking on point. Her love for shopping for herself and others was no secret. You could find her at the mall or Palais Royal on the weekend shopping and a great time. Another hobby and love of her life was her Houston Astros and her Houston Rockets. Watching their every game, yelling and shushing anyone interrupting. Mema was also known for her gardening and baking which she loved, her cooking was amazing, and she loved to do it for anyone. Best known for her homemade dressing!

Earline aka Mema is survived by her two children, Andrea Johnson and Brian and wife Priscilla Butler. Also, her grandchildren, Troy, Alyssa, and Krystal; and great grandchildren, Dustin, Delaney, Katelin, Kaden, Chance, Masen, and Claire; and great-great grandchildren, Adalynn and Braylin.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Confederate Cemetery, 998 Dickinson Rd., Alvin, Texas 77511.

Condolences may be sent to the Butler family in care of Jeter Memorial Funeral Home at www.jeterfuneralhome.com.

  1. When I went to work for Brazoria County back in 1996, Earline and Henri Jean became my dearest friends. There are so many wonderful memories but one that comes to mind often is the trip to Eureka Springs, Arkansas Earline went on with me, my mon and my kids. We laughed for many years after when talking about that trip. My son kept her in stitches! Earline fit right in with my family. We loved her dearly.
She was a blessing to me. I’m looking forward to seeing her again someday. I love you Earline Butler. What a wonderful godly woman you were! 💖

My other Mother, my best friend, my mentor my confidant and so many other things she was to me. We worked together over 30 years and went through lots of trial tribulations and happy times. She made my Dressing for years but I made her sit and show me exactly what to do but of course I will never be able to make her cornbread but she was so proud of me first year I made it I had to take her some so she could test it. Her words "Its. not mine but it will do" lol. she taught me so many things about life and how to get through the tough times. She was there when I lost my Mother my husband and she was with me the day I found out I had Cancer. She put her arms around me and said "Henri you can do this just lean on God and your Faith and YOU GOT THIS. Yes I did have it that was 31 years ago and I have mentored hundreds of people going through Breast Cancer just like she mentored me. We had so many fun trips together swimming days at my house after work with Krystal and her friends. I have lost my dearest friend but she is not lost I know exactly where she is. Her and my Sister Maudell are discussing that I will try to make Dressing in a few weeks but it will never be as good as theirs but at least I will try. I love you so much Mema and I will see you again until then I know I have you and Sister watching over me. Paige just wants you to have her a Chocolate Pie for her when she gets there. Yours were the best. Rest In Peace my sweet Earline you fought a good fight and won the Crown. Henri

No words to describe Mema. She was an amazing lady that was full of knowledge. So many great memories. I know when I enter Heaven, she will have me an amazing chocolate pie waiting. She always made me chocolate pies on my birthday, and whenever I ask. She was amazing to Krystal growing up, as Krystal was to her, especially as she got up in years. There are not enough kudos to both of them for ALWAYS taking care of each other. Love you Mema, and see you again someday. You get Heaven all straightened out.

  4. I met Mema when I was a very young girl (3 or 4 years old). She was the grandmother to my childhood friend, Alyssa, and I was blessed to spend many special times with Mema. I know she will be missed by so many! Prayers and love for her family.❤️🙏

    1. I have known Mema since I was 16. She was the mother of my bestie, Andrea. I spent many memorable times with her & after my mom passed she became my second mom. Loved her & her famous dressing. Prayers for the whole family. They are very special to me.
