In Loving Memory

Donnis Everett Hammond, Jr.

September 11, 1950 – March 4, 2024

Donnis Everett Hammond Jr., aged 73, passed away on March 4, 2024 in Houston, Texas. He passed away with his loving wife, Denise, by his side in the comfort of their home.

Donnis was born in Houston, Texas on September 11, 1950 to Donnis Hammond Sr. and Billie Jo Broz. He was part of a large family, being the oldest of ten children. After graduating from high school, he moved to California for several years to pursue art in college. Donnis grew up in a family that loved music, and he spent half of his life playing in several renowned Texas Honky-tonk bands while traveling the world.

After meeting his wife, Denise, Donnis decided to settle down and pursue a career in commercial roofing, where he retired in 2016 after 30 years of service. Donnis and Denise shared a love that spanned an incredible 39 years.

Donnis was a loving father and husband who enjoyed spending his free time singing, playing guitar, gardening, cooking, and fishing. He had a big heart and was always willing to help those in need. Donnis had a strong faith in God and regularly attended church at First Baptist Pasadena.

Donnis was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Freddie and Pat. He is survived by his wife Denise; daughter Sara and son-in-law Ethan; brothers Ernie, Glen, Edwin Earl, Billy Dale, and Lonnie; sisters Jo Ellen and Barbara Jean; and six-week-old granddaughter Claire. Donnis cherished meeting his granddaughter before his passing. He also leaves behind his three dogs, Duke, Luke, and Delilah.

While Donnis' death is heartbreaking and leaves a void that cannot be filled, he is no longer suffering and may he rest in eternal peace in the presence of our Loving God.

Friends are invited to the funeral with the family on Friday, March 15, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, Texas, 77546 (281) 992-7200 with Pastor Kyle Dobbs officiating.

    To Donnis,

In the symphony of life, you've been a cherished melody, a gentle hand strumming the strings of inspiration. Your dedication to sharing the artistry of music has not only enriched my life but has left an indelible mark on my soul.

Through the chords you've taught me and the notes we've played together, you've inspired a life long passion for music in me. Your patience and encouragement have been the pillars upon which my love for music has flourished.

Beyond the frets and strings, you've been a life long friend to my father Jimmie, a mentor, and a beacon of creativity.

As I listen to the strings of a guitar, I'll carry your lessons and spirit with me always, grateful for the melody you've woven into the tapestry of my life.
