In Loving Memory

David Gerald Skidmore

June 12, 1960 – November 29, 2022

David Gerald Skidmore, 62, entered Heaven’s gates on November 29, 2022, after a short but courageously fought battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on June 12, 1960 to Gerald and Joyce (Dailey) Skidmore. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joyce Skidmore; grandparents, Mike and Hazel Dailey; grandparents, Russell and Mary Belle Skidmore; father-in-law, Clifford Mahlow; brothers-in-law, Bryan Mahlow and Charlie Fuller; sister-in law, Deborah Mahlow; stepmother, Sheila Boylan Skidmore; and nephew, Christopher Csikos.

David leaves behind his loving wife of 41 years, Sheila; his dad, Gerald (Carol) Skidmore; mother-in-law, Margaret Pelzel; brother, Stephen (Robbin) Skidmore; sister-in-law, Pamela Fuller; step-sisters, Lisa (Mike) Csikos, Lori (Greg) Marwill, Allison Bond (Jack Bornstein), Jennifer (King) Tomlinson; nieces, Taylor (Scott) Blissit, Madison (Blair) Wilder, Glenna (Lucia) Leija, Sherry Mahlow, Michaela Csikos, Hannah Marwill, Jessamy (John) Daniels, and Sarah Tomlinson; nephews, Blake Mahlow, Colton Marwill; and Thomas Tomlinson; great-nieces, Brenna Leija and Ivy Blissit; and great-nephews, Ryder Leija, Klein Blissit, and Beau Wilder, and last but not least his dog, Brody.

Upon graduation from high school, David went to work for Monsanto Chemical Company/Solutia. While working full-time at Monsanto/Solutia, he attained his Bachelor’s degree from LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas. After working with Southwest Water Company, then Spectra Energy/Enbridge, he elected early retirement in November of 2019. Upon retirement, he immediately enrolled in Auctioneering school and became a licensed auctioneer in the state of Texas.

David loved grilling, hunting, fishing, music, and playing the guitar. He was a Houston Texans season ticket holder, loved the Houston Astros and supported many sports teams, including the Alvin Yellowjackets, Friendswood Mustangs, Texas Longhorns, Texas A&M, LSU Tigers, and even those Dallas Cowboys. David was a past HLSR volunteer and served on the Graphics & Signage and Calf Scramble committees. He loved working with other auctioneers to raise funds for charitable organizations and was even featured in a Summer 2020 Texas Monthly article. He was a member of The Fellowship of Christian Auctioneers International and the Texas Auctioneers Association. He was always learning something new and could do anything he set his mind to.

David, forever thoughtful, left behind a note thanking his family and friends for their phone calls, text messages, visits, and encouragement throughout his illness. He was a fighter and fought this dreadful disease until the end; however, God needed him more.

Friends are invited to the visitation with the family on Thursday, December 8, 2022, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a service at 1:00 PM at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, Texas 77546, (281) 992-7200.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in David’s name to The Harbor, 2821 W. Parkwood Avenue, Friendswood, Texas 77546, or St. Paul Lutheran Church, 401 W. 7th Street, Taylor, Texas 76574.
