In Loving Memory

Darryl Markey Reed

October 3, 1947 – May 3, 2022

Darryl Markey Reed, age 74, passed away peacefully at home on May 3, 2022. Darryl was born October 3, 1947 in Houston, TX to Winbourne Reed and June Reed Bunch. Darryl was a proud native Texan and a native Houstonian. He lived in Houston growing up and later settled in Friendswood, TX for 28 years. He has also lived in Germany while serving in the Army, Temple, TX, and for the last 11 years of his life, Pearland, TX.

He became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1970 while serving in the US Army in Germany. The majority of Darryl’s career was in real estate as a sales agent and broker, and in construction as a general contractor. The last 9 years of his career he worked for Targa Resources as a right of way landman in the Oil and Gas industry.

Darryl loved genealogy and discovered over 2300 descendants of his ancestors, Michael and Martha Burnett Reed. In 1981, he founded the Michael Reed Family Association. He authored two books on his genealogy, one of which was awarded 1st place by the Texas State Genealogical Society. He also offered his services as an ancestral detective.

His hobbies included raising thoroughbred horses, going to the movies, camping, going to the horse races, doing research in the genealogical libraries, inventorying cemeteries, going out to eat good food, watching old westerns, and watching the Astros.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sharon; 4 children: JT English (Erica), Amanda Reed (Jason), Rebecca Buswell (Jordan), and Rachel Perkins (Matt); 10 grandchildren: Ian, Tommy, Ryan, Tessa, Addi, Kylee, Bonnie, Dallin, KC, and Bronson; sisters: Sheryl Bazemore (Joe), Karen Hughes (Keith), and Donna Pustejovsky (Jerry); and 7 nieces and 9 nephews.

    Darryl,
As your friend and caregiver for almost 3 years, I miss you, your laugh, going to La Casita with you, ( you getting either crunchy tacos or chicken enchiladas), going to the movies and eating junk food with you, and just knowing you’re around. ( I must say, however, I don’t miss you ringing the bell haha).
Thank you for the memories. And the time spent with you.
And Sharon, thank you for making me feel part of the family. And always making sure I was doing okay, even though it was my job to make sure y’all were okay. And for your big loving giving heart.
And to Amanda, JT, Rachel, and Rebecca… it was a pleasure. Y’all are all great.
Sending my love and hugs, an especially big one to Sharon.
Darryl, I guess you’re getting to meet all those ancestors you researched. Know that your loved ones miss you and hold you firmly in their hearts until they see you again. Try not to eat too much junk food. Don’t cheat betting on the horse races, now that you probably know who’s gonna win before it even happens. Enjoy being able to finally walk again. I know you’re happy about that. You be good and try to behave😆.
    Love you.
