In Loving Memory

Charles William "CW" Van Dyke

September 3, 1941 – December 2, 2022

Charles William “CW” Van Dyke, 81, of Friendswood, Texas, passed away on December 2, 2022.

Charles was born in the home of his parents, Harold and Jane Van Dyke on September 3,1941. He was raised with two younger brothers, Paul and Steve, in Algoa, Texas. He attended Catholic School where he was an altar boy at True Cross in Dickinson, Texas and became an Eagle Scout and multi-sport athlete prior to graduating from Santa Fe High School in 1959. His interest in electronics led him to a 30-year career with IBM.

Shortly after meeting Carol Ann Smith of La Porte, Texas in 1963, they were married and lived in Houston for a few years prior to settling down in Friendswood, Texas where they raised their daughter, Laura, and son, Charles.

Dad always enjoyed cooking, so after retiring from IBM, he attended the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York and worked at the Houston Country Club prior to baking at Wal-Mart for over a decade. He was a life-long learner, devout Catholic, founding member and Past Faithful Navigator of Knights of Columbus Council #8494.

His beloved wife, Carol Van Dyke, died on August 12, 2022, after a long and full life. They were loved and will be missed terribly. They are survived by their son Charles Jr. (wife Andrea and daughter Ava), Charles’ brother Paul (wife Kitty and son Ross), Carol’s siblings Jim (wife Shirley and daughter Jenny) and Joan (daughter Heather and husband Matt). They will be sadly missed and will always hold a place in our hearts.

We would love you to join us to honor this joint Celebration of Life for Charles and Carol on December 21, 2022, which would have been their 59th Wedding Anniversary. Services will be held in their hometown at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home at 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, Texas on December 21, 2022. Visitation starts at 1:00 P.M. followed by a memorial service at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. James H. Kuczynski, M.S. officiating.

Charles, Laura and families, Jerry & I send you our sincere and deepest sympathy. We can’t make the memorial service because Jer is really ill, but will keep your family in prayer for God’s comfort. With much love from your cousins, Jo & Jer
