June 5, 1967 – August 21, 2024
Charles “Chuck” Phillip Von Schaaf, Jr. was born on June 5, 1967 in Atlanta to Phil and Vicki Von Schaaf. He grew up in Chattanooga, TN and was a proud 1986 graduate of East Ridge High School. He graduated with honors from the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art in Dover, NJ and later earned a ministry training degree from Rhema Bible College in Tulsa, OK.
Chuck loved God with all of his heart. Every piece he created was signed with his name and 1st Peter 1:3 (All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by His great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation 4and we have a priceless inheritance – an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.) No matter what Chuck was going through, he lived life with that great expectation. He passionately worked as a Children’s and Youth Pastor for many years, touching the lives of hundreds who have kept in touch with him over the years, and still recall him so fondly. Some later became missionaries or pastors themselves. Chuck had a Godly impact on the lives of so many, and he absolutely LIVED 1st Corinthians 13.
Chuck was a gifted artist and dedicated his talent boldly to the Lord. He honed his skills, enabling him to incorporate his artistic abilities in working with children, designing classrooms, billboards, and he was the owner of BlaqThumb Creative Productions. He also did background work for Marvel and D.C. Comics and upon meeting his earthly ‘idol’, Stan Lee, his wife says that’s the ONLY time she’s ever seen him at a loss for words. He always had a way of making others laugh, and he never met a stranger.
Only a year ago, Chuck and his wife moved to their property in Alvin, Texas. He immediately felt at home, spending countless hours outside with the dogs, playing with and training his constant furry companions, German Shepherd Ozzie, and his black lab, Pepper, and he named all the trees on the property. He could find JOY in every moment.
He will be lovingly remembered for his incredible art, his kindness, his wit, his positive outlook on life, gifts of art to friends and family and to the medical professionals who cared for him. And he will be sorely missed as the host of Game Nights and Cookie Fest (a new Christmas tradition that was all his idea).
The highlight of his week was being able to attend High Point Church in Friendswood with his wife. He and Rachel quickly became involved in working with the children’s ministry and he gave it his all – as he did with everything in life.
At the young age of 57, Chuck Von Schaaf entered the gates of Heaven on Wednesday, August 21st, 2024. He was surrounded by friends and family in his final moments at Memorial Herman Southeast Hospital in Houston, TX.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Rachel Von Schaaf; sons Chase (and wife Megan) and Carson Von Schaaf of Hayden, ID; his stepson Bruce J. Courtney; and his Mother, Patsy Von Schaaf, as well as his aunts and uncles, David and Jackie (Von Schaaf) Sandifer, and Brad and Missy (Von Schaaf) Keith; and cousins, Stacey, Hal, Phillip, and Jake. He leaves a legacy of servitude and will be greatly missed by many.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024 at 2:00pm at Jeter Funeral Home 311 North Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, TX 77546 (281) 992-7200. A Celebration of Life in Chattanooga will be held to honor him in his hometown on October 12th.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Kidney Fund.

My love…
I know I told you this before, but not only did I love you for the rest of your life, but I'll love you for the rest of MINE.
Rest well, my precious Chuck. You're in the hands of Jesus now.
Rachel
I am truly grateful to have been a slice of Chuck's life. When meeting, and growing close to his adoring wife, Rachel, he was a part of the package deal. The unconditional love demonstrated by them both was very rare and authentic. Chuck will be missed tremendously by his close-knit, loving, and God-filled family, I just know. However, we all (my family and their family) are comforted in knowing where he is now….. At the feet of Jesus.
I never met you. I was an audience member in your love story and your fight. I prayed, I laughed, I cried.
Thank you Rachel for a small glimpse into his life.
Chuck is with God, at peace. Love to you Rachel.
Chuck. I remember Thanksgiving at your home in Chattanooga. As an only child, putting your family and Patsy's together was more people than I was used to. I watched you grow up and display your talent and saw the love you shared with Pat. So nice to know Rachel from her writing. Still think she should write a book. You both shared a selfless love. Go be with God and liven up the heavens.you will be missed.
All day I have thought about what to say here and I'm still drawing a blank. I'll do the best that I can with the Lord's help:
May you rest in the arms of Jesus in his beautiful Kingdom now Chuck.
You have been an inspiration to so many for so long and you will be missed.
We thank you Father God for all of the years of joy and happiness that you allowed Chuck give to his beautiful wife Rachel and his family~
Rest well my friend until we are all joined together in God's Kingdom~

Chuck, the kids and I loved you so much. They have great memories of the stories you "tried out" on them. I had you as a little brother, helping you with girls. My heart is broken to have lost you so young.
I Love you Chuck. Thank you for living and loving with all your heart.
My brother from another mother. The Lord truly knit us together. We shared so much, thought alike in so many ways, loved the Lord with all our hearts! It’s hard to believe you are gone from this earth when I still need to talk to my brother. I have peace in your absence mainly because, I know you are in heaven chatting with your Dad and Mimi about all the funny things that never occurred to us in life. I can truly thank you for my sisterhood with beautiful Rachel, thank you for that gift. Until we are reunited in our Lord’s glory. Rest well my brother. Love your slightly younger sister, Ava xo
