Annette Louise Schackne, a native of Delaware, Ohio, died on Sunday, January 8, 2023, in Webster, Texas. Anne was born in Columbus, Ohio, on September 22, 1931, to Lewis and Nettie Lobb. She was raised on her parent’s farm near Worthington, Ohio, and graduated from Dublin High School in 1949. As a young woman, she had a beautiful soprano voice, and loved singing in her church choir.
She attended Ohio State University and graduatedwith a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in December 1954. While at Ohio State, Anne met the love of her life, Donald Schackne, at a church camp, and they were married on June 11, 1955. As a young couple they enjoyed golfing, square dancing and camping. They lived in Columbus, Shelby, Bryan and Belpre, Ohio, before moving to their country home in Delaware in 1982, where they spent many happy years. From the mid-1980s to the late 1990s Anne was Executive Director of People in Need, a local non-profit social services agency, and it was a job she truly enjoyed. She also loved working in her garden, cooking for family, reading and telling stories about growing up in central Ohio. Don and Anne spent 59 wonderful years together, until his passing in December 2014. In 2019, Anne moved to Friendswood, Texas, to be closer to her Texas family.
Anne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Don, her beloved son Todd David Schackne, and her sister Katy Sladky. She is survived by her children Laurie Stokes and her husband David of Yorba Linda, CA, Michael Schackne and his wife Sharon of Lakeland FL, and Lisa Martin and her husband Steve of Friendswood, TX. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jason Stokes, his wife Amanda and their son Spencer, Adam Stokes and his wife Noelle, Kyle Schackne, Ryan Schackne and his wife Shelby, Hannah Martin and Sarah Martin.
A memorial service will be held at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546 on Saturday January 21, 2023, at 11:00 am. Anne will be buried at Oak Grove Cemetery in Delaware, Ohio.
Donations in Anne’s name may be made to the Humane Society of Delaware County.
