Peggy Millwood Stone passed away on August 13, 2026, surrounded by her family at her home in Friendswood, Texas, after fighting the good fight with the same strength and determination that defined her life. Born on July 27, 1948, in Jasper, Alabama, Peggy was the daughter of Willie Millwood and Dorothy Love Millwood. She will be remembered as a strong, dedicated and creative wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Though she was born in the giant metropolis of Jasper, Alabama, her roots were established in the back roads of Walker County, specifically a small community called Holly Grove which no longer exists. This area remained near and dear to her heart as she still had friends and family there and often referred to it as “home.” She loved returning to Alabama to reconnect with the country, the people and the fellowship she treasured. Among those special places was the Old Mill Dam where her husband Jerry proposed. Although she held great love for the state of Alabama, her beginnings were humble. In pursuit of growing opportunities, she and Jerry set out for Texas where they planted roots of their own, grew their business and began their family.
Her heritage became extremely important to her in her later years as she joined the Jane Long Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) where she volunteered decorating award-winning trees and tables for Christmas parties. Her generous spirit didn’t stop with the DAR. She also gave her time and skills to bring joy to patients at TIRR Hospital by organizing pumpkin painting activities at Halloween and leading a team to bring the Christmas cheer through decorating the hospital. She and Jerry spent many hours supporting the patients and families at the Ronald McDonald House of Galveston where they most enjoyed dressing up as Santa and Mrs. Claus. Big Christmas girl! They even convinced their grandchildren to join in as elves occasionally. She also served on the Nasa/Clear Creek/Friendswood Go Texan Committee for the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo where she raised scholarship funds and filled her closet with a fabulous collection of boots and bling.
She adored each friendship she held throughout her life. In her most recent chapter, she formed a very tight-knit group of friends of shared interest in quilting and lunching. She greatly enjoyed hosting these women to swap creative ideas, work on their projects and share stories. Her creativity shined through countless hours spent hand-making gifts for those she cared for most. These pieces will be held and cherished for years to come.
Of all her accomplishments, Peggy was most proud of the life she built with Jerry, the love of her life, and the family they raised together. Over 62 years, they were partners in every sense of the word and created a life and family through hard work, tenacity, faith and an unwavering devotion to one another. Even at the very end, Peggy looked at Jerry with the same adoring eyes and heart still filled with joy. In the words of 1 Corinthians 13:7, “Love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” Their marriage perfectly embodied the spirit of this verse.
Peggy enjoyed extravagant decorations and spreads of food to host their large family for every holiday she was able. Everyone who joined for Christmas dinner walked away with a favorite piece of décor whether it be the dining room owls, the above-the-couch elf or the bathtub Christmas tree. Of all the food she made, she was most known for her delicious desserts. If you were lucky enough to have her at your birthday dinner, you would without a doubt be assigned your “favorite cake” like the banana cake. If you know, you know. Her children and grandchildren will always remember her in these details.
Peggy is survived by her husband Jerry Lynn Stone Sr.; her children, Victoria Manna & husband Tony, Jerry Stone II & wife Kristy, and Wyndi Perry & husband Chuck; her sisters, Soundra Nuell and Rhonda Murphy; her grandchildren, Alainna Taylor, Alyssa Cox & husband Tim, Zachary Taylor, Irving Nuell, Cory Perry, John Alex Perry, Bryce Perry & fiancé Madison Walsh, Hannah Stone and Zayn Perry; her great-grandchildren, Courtney Cox, Ryan Cox, Caleb Cox, Kainan Perry and Karsyn Perry; and other loving family and friends.
Peggy leaves behind a family strengthened by her love, countless lives brightened by her generosity, and more hand-made treasures, Christmas memories and stories than we can count. She will be greatly missed.
Friends and family are invited to the visitation on Friday, August 21st at 10am followed by a memorial service at 11am at Friendswood Methodist Church, 110 North Friendswood Dr., Friendswood. A private burial will be held at a later date.
