Patricia Jean Sullivan Riley, 93, passed away May 29, 2025, at her residence in Friendswood, TX. Mrs. Riley was a native of Brockton, MA, and moved from Santa Clara, CA, to Friendswood, TX in January 1964, where she resided for the rest of her life. She was Salutatorian of her class at Lawrence High School, Falmouth, MA. Her career as Executive Secretary included positions of employment with Superintendent of Schools, Falmouth, MA; Manager of Manufacturing, ULTRA SONIC, Cambridge, MA; Manager of Manufacturing, Tidewater Oil Co. (Getty Oil), San Francisco, CA; Manager of Equipment, (overseas operations) Bechtel Corp., San Francisco, CA; Manager of Personnel and Public Relations, Falstaff Brewery, San Jose, CA. She worked as Proofreader and Public Relations representative at Friendswood-Pearland Reporter News, Pearland, TX from 1987-1995. Mrs. Riley was a firm believer in volunteerism and held many positions on a volunteer basis during her lifetime. With her dedicated concern for children to travel to school safely, she was instrumental in organizing the Hike ‘n’ Bike Safety Path Committee, which laid numerous miles of sidewalks from 1974 to 1982. Mrs. Riley served as co-chair of the Committee along with a member of the Friendswood Jaycees. Upon her request in 1976, The American Revolution Bicentennial Commission of Texas presented a grant to the Friendswood Bicentennial Committee, which was used to complete the sidewalk on Stadium Drive by Westwood Elementary School.
Patricia was the proud mother of two Eagle Scouts and a daughter who achieved the Girl Scout Gold Award and was a member of the executive committee serving as treasurer for six years for BSA Troop 445, Friendswood. Additionally, she was a member of Mustang Band Booster Club at Friendswood HS, for 11 years, serving as treasurer for nine years.
Mrs. Riley also served as secretary of the Friendswood Community Appearance Board. As a founding member of Friendswood Fine Arts Council (FFAC) in 1985, she served as treasurer for three years. While serving as office manager for FFAC, she worked in the offices of Cecil Brown.
Mrs. Riley served on the Board of Directors for the Friendswood subdivision of Lori Woods, Inc. for countless years, including several terms as secretary and treasurer, and wrote a monthly newsletter for the subdivision for nearly 30 years. As a lifelong Republican, Mrs. Riley was a member of the Republican National Committee, member of the National Federation of Republican Women and Bay Area Republican Women, Houston, TX, where she held positions as Newsletter Editor and Historian.
A firm believer of self-care, in 1962 she began an exercise program, by watching Jack LaLanne on television. In 1977 she joined an aerobics class in Friendswood and then later enjoyed another aerobics class in Webster. A dedicated student of Jazzercise since 1991, both in Texas and Florida, she attended Jazzercise International Conventions in San Diego in 1995, 1999, Las Vegas in 2003 and the 50th Anniversary Celebration of Jazzercise in San Diego in 2019. She also was an active member from 2001 to present of the Daytona Divas, a chapter of the Red Hat Society in Daytona Beach, FL. For eight years she was a member of the UpBeats a singing group of 12 that entertained at senior residences with songs from Big Band to Folk in Ormond Beach, FL. From 1991 to 2019, Mrs. Riley maintained a second home in Ormond Beach, FL, where she enjoyed the serenity of the seaside.
Preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Eddie J. Riley. Survivors include son, Vance Riley (Ann); daughter, Dana Riley; son, Brennan Riley; grandson, Luke Riley; granddaughter Katie Riley; step-grandchildren, Timothy Tesch (Mallory); Michael Castner (Shelby); step-great-grandchildren, Landon Tesch, Nolan Tesch; Everett Castner, Raelynn Castner, and many dearly beloved nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Friendswood Volunteer Fire Department, 1610 Whitaker, Friendswood, TX 77546; MADD, 511 East John Carpenter Freeway, Ste 700, Irving, TX 75062.
A visitation will occur at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life on Friday June 6, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 311 N. Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, TX 77546. Patricia requested no black clothes as this will be a Celebration of Life. A graveside service will be held Memorial Park Cemetery, 2201 N. Main St. Victoria, TX at 3:00p.m. Condolences may be sent to the Riley Family at P.O. Box 374 Friendswood, TX 77549.
