January 17, 1951 – January 13, 2025
Ronald Michael Coleman of Friendswood, TX passed away January 13, 2025 at the age of 73. Ron was born in Misawa, Japan on January 17, 1951. He graduated from LaGrange High School in 1969 and then attended McNeese State University to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Ron worked as a mechanical design engineer and maintenance engineer for 45 years. Ron moved to Texas where he began his career at Alcoa in Point Comfort, later contributing his talents at Monsanto (Chocolate Bayou), ISP Specialty Chemicals (Paducah, KY) and CDI Engineering (Freeport), before retiring from Ref-Chem Engineering (Houston).
A mechanical engineer by trade and a problem-solver at heart, Ron never met a challenge he couldn't tackle. His skillful hands and innovative mind could fix nearly anything and he took great joy in the art of tinkering. He was particularly proud of earning his Professional Engineering licenses in three states and his passion for engineering inspired both his sons to follow in his footsteps in their own careers.
In his younger days, Ron could often be found catching waves – surfing and swimming – off the shores of Holly Beach, LA, Galveston, TX and Cocoa Beach, FL with his wife, Yvonne and friends. As his sons David and Eric grew up, he channeled his love of sports into coaching baseball, creating lasting memories for both his children and their teammates. A man of tradition who appreciated life's simple pleasures, Ron found particular joy in good food and quiet moments outdoors, especially on his Kentucky farm where he lovingly tended to his pecan trees.
He is survived by his sons, David Coleman and Eric Coleman (Clare); his brother, Rick Coleman (Sandy); and his nephew, Casey Coleman. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy Coleman and Margaret (Hohn) Coleman; his beloved wife, Yvonne; and his nephew, Josh Coleman.
A private Memorial Mass for family will be held at Mary Queen Catholic Church in Friendswood, TX on January 31 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the McNeese State University Foundation, College of Engineering Scholarship.
