February 25, 1935 – October 23, 2024
Delores Bartos Tacquard was born February 25,1935 in a house that her father had built on their cotton farm in old Iowa Colony, Texas. She died on October 23, 2024 after a long and courageous battle with MDS. Old Iowa Colony was a close community of Czech cotton farmers, who had preserved their culture and their language. Most were Catholic and attended Mass at the Sacred Heart Church on the Scanlon Plantation in Juliff, Texas. Delores was the third girl in a family of four girls. With no boys in the family, the girls became farm hands and they learned to work at an early age. Delores started school at Iowa Colony South in a two-room school. One room was for grades 1-5 and the other was grades 6-7. She did grades 6 and 7 at Our Lady of the Lake in San Antonio. She attended high school in Alvin, graduating in 1952 as valedictorian and the football team elected her as Team Sweetheart. She also became the sweetheart of George Tacquard, who she married on July 4, 1953 and they spent the next 71 years together. After her children were in school, Delores enrolled in Alvin Community College and earned her associate’s degree.
Delores made many friends during here lifetime which was devoted to doing things for other people. Church and family motivated her to do many of the things she did. She taught Catechism for several years, was a member of the Alter Society, and participated in the adoration activities at St. John The Baptist Catholic Church in Alvin where she was a member. She was best known as chairwoman of the kolache booth at the church festival. Delores spent 25 years adjusting the recipe until two friends told her “no more changes because your kolaches are perfect”.
Delores also gave time to the community as well serving as a cub scout den mother for 25 years and was given a gold Mustang Award for this dedicated service. Delores spent her entire life as a resident of Iowa Colony or Alvin.
Delores is survived by her husband of 71 years, George Tacquard and her four sons and wives. George (Kathy), Andy (Robin), David, Tom (Rene). Plus 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. Stepbrother Frankie Lyons, step sister in-law, Henrietta Lyons, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Emil and Beatrice Bartos, sisters Mary Denoski, Pauline Olsovsky, Beatrice Vincent, stepbrother Jude Lyons, and stepfather Frank Lyons.

We are so very sorry for the loss of such a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother. Our heartfelt prayers are for George and this entire beautiful family. Delores will be sorely missed by not only her immediate and extended family but also by long time friends and the church/Alvin community at large.
Our condolences to the entire Tacquard family. Mrs. Tacquard was a very special lady. May your hearts find peace.
Big love and hugs.
I remember Mrs. Tacquard so vividly. Her days with the Scouts- I remember her as this beautiful lady-wearing a yellow top- different from the rest – and always with a beautiful smile. Also, there was an afternoon my mother took me out to the family home. Mrs. Tacquard was frying zucchini which was freshly picked from the garden- – My mother had never cooked it that way and I had never loved it! Of course then Mr. Tacquard sent some fresh squash home with us for my mother to fry for my family.
I have you all in my prayers.

I really hope the family reads this. You probably do not realize whose memories she is a part of. Yes -a special lady.
It was such a pleasure to serve such a beautiful lady. I am thankful for the time and visits.
Love Always,

Andy & Robin and the Taquard family,

Much love,

I grew up just down the road from the Bartos's and remember helping her Dad work cattle. They were great friends and always helped out when needed. . I had the privilege of taking a kolach making class from her. The world would be a much better place if we had more people like Delores.
Her kolaches were the best. I am so glad she shared her talent with St. John's. Such a beautiful lady – inside and out. Tom and the rest of the Tacquard family you are in my prayers. May she rest in peace and perpetual light shine upon her.
My deepest condolences. Aunt Dolores was a gracious and kind person. I have memories of her sweet smile and kind words.
