Doris Piotrowski, 89, of Friendswood, Texas, passed away August 15, 2024, at St. Dominic Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Houston, Texas. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Florence Ryan and Vernon Knickrehm. Doris was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy in Cleveland, Ohio, and married Bernard (Bernie) Carl Piotrowski on August 8, 1953. Their years together included many re-locations with their growing family–from Cleveland, Ohio to Columbus, Ohio to Indianapolis, Indiana, to Toledo, Ohio, to Livonia, Michigan, to St. Louis, Missouri, then onto Houston, Texas. She was active with her sons in the Boy Scouts of America and with her daughters in the Girl Scouts, in addition to volunteering and working in her children’s schools. Later in life, she completed a bachelor’s degree in psychology at the University of Houston and worked at a non-profit. In retirement, Doris and Bernie moved to Galveston, Texas, where they were active in the church and volunteered with the Galveston Outdoor musicals. After enduring one too many tropical storm seasons, Doris and Bernie moved to Friendswood to be closer to their family. Doris was an outstanding cook and party-planner, hosting many family holiday gatherings, as well as the activities of the Sand Dollars in Galveston and Mary Queen Seniors in Friendswood. She was always ready to recommend a recipe and put together many recipe books for family and friends. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother—patient, kind, and thoughtful.
Survivors include her children, Bernard Robert (Linda) Piotrowski of Franklin, Indiana; Michael (Malinda) Piotrowski of Maumee, Ohio; Susan (Bruce Conger) Piotrowski of Friendswood, Texas; Lucy (Edwardo) Gomez of Houston, Texas; Daniel (Andrea) Piotrowski of Frankston, Texas; Christine (Thomas) Preli of Montgomery, Texas; and Thomas (Jennifer) Piotrowski of Jersey Village, Texas. Additional survivors are twenty-one grandchildren: Bernard Stephen, Gregory, Joseph, Jeffrey, Elizabeth, Julia, Lauren, Adam, Kevin, Ian, Monica, Ethan, Emily, Andrew, Matthew, Abigail, Eliza, Thomas, Patrick, Alexandra, and Catherine; twelve great-grandchildren: Katelyn, Bernard Matthew, Annabelle, Elyse, Klarra, Casen, Rose, Zoe, Lucas, Cora, Jacob, and Hank; a half-brother, William Knickrehm; a sister-in-law, Carole Belter; a sister-in-law, Meleny Piotrowski and an "adopted" son, Fr. Benny of India.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard, and her parents.
A funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at 10:30 AM with a visitation at 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM at Mary Queen Catholic Church, 606 Cedarwood Dr. Friendswood, Texas 77546.

I love you mom! You taught me how to be a great mom and supported all of my children and their adventures. I'm so grateful we had you for your last holidays at our house and also got to go to Saltgrass with the boys-your favorite place. We have so many beautiful memories. You supported me when I returned to college and said I could do it because you did. You showed me how to be a gentle, kind, caring person. You joined dad on the Assumption of Mary. What a fitting day for such a beautiful soul. I will miss you mom, but will carry you in my heart.💐💕 Lucy
I will always remember Aunt Dory’s wonderful laugh! Somehow, as I think about her and our family get togethers, her laugh comes through and her love shines through. I know Uncle Ben, Uncle Dutch and Pop ( Bob Piotrowski) were all there to great her!

Doris was a wonderful mother-in-law to me. I love how she indulged my sons with her attentive care and sense of fun and adventure whenever they could be together. I deeply admired how she let others feel special by giving them her full attention. Doris taught me how to make my first Thanksgiving turkey and how to stretch spaghetti for a crowd. I learned much more than this from her by her example, of course. She will be missed.

First and foremost let me convey my heartfelt condolences and prayers to you all. She was a wonderful Mom and I loved her very much. She was a gentle soul who took care of her family well. Family was everything to her. She will be missed by us all. She was part of my life and I will never forget her. How I wish to be there with you all my adopted family members but you know I can’t. I am with you all in prayer. Love you all.
