In Loving Memory

Richard "Dick" William Morey

March 26, 1933 – July 23, 2024

Richard William Morey, 91, passed away peacefully at his home in Pearland, Texas on July 23, 2024. He was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on March 26, 1933, to William Swazy, II and Marion Drown Morey.

After graduating from The College of Wooster (Wooster, Ohio) Dick enrolled in McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois where he met his bride of 68 years, Wylda Masters Morey.

Dick served as an ordained pastor in the Presbyterian Church for nine years until the Lord spoke to him and released him from that calling. After the pastorate he worked for IBM until retirement in 1993. Dick and Wylda decided to move to Pleasant Hill, Missouri and built their dream home. They moved to Pearland, Texas in 2012 to be closer to family living in the area. Wherever they lived, Dick served the Lord in the church they called home. His Bible teaching was second to none and he spent hours preparing to share. When he was not working, Dick had many hobbies.  He loved to travel, scuba dive, and paint. His favorite trip with Wylda was to Zion National Park in Utah but his most enjoyable trips were trips where he could scuba dive. He painted historic clowns for each of his grandchildren at their birth. Hard to believe but some find clowns creepy. His were precious. He took pride in his excel spreadsheets as well and is infamous where those are concerned. Whatever he was busy with, he always found time for Bible Study.

Dick is preceded in death by his parents William and Marion, his infant brother Billy, and his brother Don Morey. He is loved and missed by his wife, Wylda Morey, their four boys, Richard Charles (April), William David (Darlene), Michael Shawn, Jon Christopher (Stephanie), and former daughter-in-law Sandi. He also leaves behind grandchildren Richard, Derek, Jennifer, Sean, Kira, Billy, Michael Sean, Asher, Malachy, Flannery (Fizzi), Jon Caleb and Darya, thirteen great grandchildren, sister-in-law Lois Morey, nieces, nephews, and very dear friends. Special to Dick and Wylda is their “Good News” Sunday School Class and have missed being with them on a regular basis.

A memorial service will be held at Friendswood Methodist Church on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. with Reverend Jim Bass officiating. A reception will follow in Wesley Hall.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Friendswood Methodist Church, The Samaritan’s Purse, or St. Jude’s Hospital in Dick’s name.

  1. Think of you guys. Dick was a very special man. I remember his visits to Jackson, Ohio when I was a little girl.

  2. Dick and Wylda were our wornderful neighbors in Friendswood 45+ years ago. Lots of great memories, such how we cooperated surviving the flood of 1979. My son's especially enjoyed their swimming pool! Our deepest condolences go to Wylda and her family.
