It is with deep sorrow and love that we announce the passing of Joyce Marie Lukens Bergmann, who peacefully departed on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at the age of 86.
She will be forever cherished by her daughter Julie LaCombe, son John Bergmann, and her beloved grandchildren, Amarriea Lawson, Jacob Bergmann, Amaya Bergmann, Madeleine and Kaitlyn LaCombe, great-grandson Andre Lawson, and brother Jerry Lukens. Joyce also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she held close to her heart. Joyce was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 52 years, John, and her brother Floyd Lukens, Jr.
Born and raised in Alvin, she was a lifelong resident of the community she loved. Joyce often shared fond memories of her youth, including graduating from Alvin High School, sneaking into the drive-in, hanging out at Dairy Land, and enjoying sodas at Stanton’s lunch counter. Affectionately known as “the neighborhood Granny,” Joyce was renowned for her warm hospitality, often baking cookies and treats for everyone. Her pecan pie and chocolate fudge sheet cake were particularly legendary. She also took great pride in her beautiful yard and plants, which she lovingly tended.
Friends are invited to join the family for a visitation at 1:00 PM followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, located at 311 N. Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, Texas 77546. Burial will follow at The Confederate Cemetery in Alvin, Texas.
In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation in Joyce’s memory to the “Verna Browning Fund” in care of Grace Episcopal Church, 112 West Lang St., Alvin, Tx. 77511.

Joyce and I are cousins, but we're more like sisters. We grew up together, played together, went to school together, laughed and cried together. Did a lot together. My very good friend. Joyce, I love you and will miss you. May you rest in peace in the House of our Lord.
I am the eldest daughter of Doris Esparza and remember visiting Joyce and Jack when we were kids. We would play with John and Julie. Even as an adult I always enjoyed visiting with Joyce when I would take my mom to visit. I always liked listening to their stories as they were growing up. Joyce always had delicious home made sweets for her visitors to enjoy. I will truly miss taking my mom to visit and listening to their stories. Joyce you are a beautiful person and with a beautiful soul. RIP Joyce for you are now with Jack and God.
