May 9, 1933 – May 17, 2024

Shirley Janice (Nunn) Johnson entered Heaven’s Gates on May 17, 2024.  God’s mercy took her with open arms.

She was born May 9, 1933 in Fabens, Texas.  She has three children; Stephen Mitchell Johnson and his wife, Elizabeth. Lisa Gaye Johnson, Barry James Johnson and his wife Lisa Marlene.  

She has seven grandchildren.  Dustin James and wife, Jennifer; Audrey Nicole and husband, Josh Walch; Baylor Ryan and wife Kayleigh; all children of Barry and Lisa Johnson. Meagan Leigh and Kelsey Diane, daughters of Elizabeth and Stephen.  Christopher James, son of Lisa Gaye.

She has four great grandchildren.  Delaney Marie and Landon Blake, children of Dustin and Jennifer.  Carter Ryan and Kori Nicole, children of Audrey and Josh.

She is also survived by her brother, Melvin Nunn and his wife, Maxine.  

She married James Frederick Johnson on February 2, 1954 in Denton, Texas.  She and Jim were married 61 years.    

She obtained her Bachelor of Music degree in 1972 from The University of Texas at El Paso.  She began teaching music in Ysleta School District the same year.  She obtained her Certificate of Education in San Antonio from Trinity University in1978.  She obtained a second degree, Bachelor of Elementary Education from The University of Arkansas in 1979.  She retired in 1981.

She was an accomplished piano musician.  Shirley loved the Lord and was a fierce prayer warrior.

Friends are cordially invited to the visitation with the family on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at 9:00 A.M. followed by a memorial service at 10:00 A.M. at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, Texas 77546 with Rev. Moe Mays officiating. Reception following at 2500 Royal Field Drive, Friendswood, Texas. 77546.
