Truett Merl Hall, age 86, passed away October 5, 2023. He was born November 28, 1936 as the 9th child of John Bunyon Hall and Ethel Rebecca Ivey Hall in Pettit, Texas. He graduated from Pettit High School in 1955 where he was active in sports and showing animals at the county fair. He is survived by his wife of sixteen years, Brownie Elizabeth Hall. Also surviving Truett are his son Kraig Allen Hall and wife Catherine, three granddaughters – Michelle Derks and husband Cole, Amy Young and husband Jake, Ryann Cline and husband Austin, and five great-grandchildren – Collins, Seely, Hayes and Wells Derks, and Scott Cline. He is also survived by one brother John Wayne Hall and wife Wanda and numerous nieces and nephews.

Truett attended West Texas State University where he earned a B.S in Education in 1962, Sam Houston State University earning a M.S in Education in 1972, and University of Houston Clear Lake where he earned his Mid-Management Administration certification in 1979. In 1962 Truett started his career in education in Smyer, Texas as the athletic director and coach. He also served as athletic director and coach in Lytle, Texas 1964-1965, and Friendship, Texas from

1965-1968. In 1968 he moved his family to Alvin, Texas where he served at Alvin High School as a coach, P.E. teacher and counselor. After 35 years in education spent coaching football and basketball, serving as athletic director, teaching P.E. and drivers ed and touching the lives of many students across the state, he retired as a counselor from Alvin ISD in 1997.

Truett enjoyed golfing, fishing with his fishing friends and on guided trips, traveling and dancing. Brownie and Truett were fun to watch on the dance floor. He liked sharing pictures with grandkids and friends of his many successful fishing trips. Truett and Brownie, enjoyed many memorable trips together including trips to Hawaii, Alaska, the Statue of Liberty and Niagara Falls. His granddaughters have fond memories of spending the night at his house and “swimming” in the hot tub, enjoying Christmas breakfast together, their bicycle rides on the country back roads of Alvin and sharing rainbow sherbet.
