Manuel Simoes Tavares

May 9, 1933 – September 21, 2023

Manuel Simoes Tavares, 90, of Alvin, Texas passed away on September 21, 2023, surrounded by his family. Manuel was born on May 9, 1933, in Mataducos, Aveiro, Portugal to Maria Simoes Pereira Tavares and Joao Tavares Junior. He came to America as a boy residing in (Cambridge and Somerville, Massachusetts) and joined the US Army at 20 years old. He served in Korea during the Korean War and was also stationed in Japan. On November 26, 1955, he married Dorothy Mary Martin, a union that lasted over 67 years.

Manny was a part-owner of Mazzarelli’s Bakery in Milford, Massachusetts for many years and also worked at several supermarkets in and around the Milford area as a Bakery Manager. He retired to Texas to be closer to his youngest grandchildren.

He leaves behind his beloved wife Dorothy, four children, Marianne Pardoe, Richard Tavares and wife Linda Civitello Tavares, John Tavares, Denise O’Leary and husband Joseph O’Leary, five grandchildren Steven Tavares, Nicholas Tavares and wife Erin Hole Tavares, Jeffrey Tavares, Patrick O’Leary, Erin O’Leary and one great grand-daughter Taya Kelly Tavares.

He loved Portuguese food, soccer, traveling and spending time with his family.

Friends are cordially invited to the visitation with the family on September 28, 2023 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with the Rosary beginning at 6:00 P.M at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, Texas 77546 (281) 992-7200.

Funeral mass will be held on Friday September 29, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. at Mary Queen Catholic Church, 606 Cedarwood Dr., Friendswood, Texas 77546.  The burial will take place at a later date at the Veteran’s National Cemetery in Houston, Texas.
