In Loving Memory

Billy George Combs

June 12, 1937 – May 15, 2023

Billy George Combs, 85, of Alvin, Tx passed away on May 15, 2023.  He was born on Saturday, June 12, 1937, to Mamie Bell Futch Combs and William E. Combs.

Billy graduated with a Master of Education in mathematics from Louisiana Tech in 1961 and then a Master of Divinity from Reformed Theological Seminary in 1969.  Billy served as pastor of Picayune, Mississippi’s First Presbyterian Church from 1968-1983, then was the Executive Director and professor at Atlanta School of Biblical Studies from 1983-1986.  Serving the Westminster Presbyterian Church, Webster/Houston, Tx from 1986-2009 and then filling in many pulpits across the Houston area allowed him to continue to preach the word of God and proclaim His grace through the remembrance of the death of Jesus on the cross for us.  Jesus offers each of us that free gift of God.  “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.”  Acts 16:31 is the verse that Billy wanted on his tombstone so that everyone passing by would hear of the good news of Christ.

Billy is preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Rostron Combs.  They were married for 52 years.  He is survived by his three children Susan Wilson (husband Danny Wilson), Barbara Combs, and Daniel Combs (wife Ashley Combs); his 5 loving grandchildren Andrew Wilson, Walker Combs, Emma Combs, Luke Combs, and Avery Combs; sister Darlene Rapp; sister-in-love Merry Horst, brother-in-love Joe Rostron (wife Becky Rostron); 18 nieces and nephews; and other family and friends.

A Memorial Service will follow at a later date.

  1. Barbara–Condolences to you and your family. My hope is that time will come soon when there are moments of peace to warm you – my heart is with you!

  2. I have so many wonderful memories of Uncle Bill, Aunt Lucy and y’all. I look forward to that day by and by when we will all be reunited. I love his tender ways and gentle voice. I will miss the occasional calls where he would share his wisdom as I sought his advice in ministry and life. The Lord giveth, the Lord taketh away. Blessed Be the Name of The Lord.
Praying for peace and joy for the whole family at this time.

Bill and Lucy were old and good friends of ours when we attended Reformed Theological Seminary together from 1967-1970. They were a wonderful example of a love for Jesus and for telling others the good news of the gospel. They also served as pastor and wife at the church in Houston, Texas for 23 years where I was the founding pastor. We miss them and look forward to seeing them again in heaven.
    Rev. John and Diana McNicoll
