January 27, 1931 – January 28, 2022
William Gary Cooper passed away January 28, 2022 at the age of 91. Bill was born January 27, 1931 in Houston, Texas, where he grew up and attended S. F. Austin High School. At that time he met his future wife of over 50 years, Alice M. Krog. They were married in June 1951. Bill had joined the Air Force in January, 1951 and was stationed at Lackland AFB in San Antonio. While in the Air Force, his son, James Cooper was born at Lackland. Following his honorable discharge in 1955, the family returned to Houston where Bill attended the University of Houston, receiving a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He worked as a parole officer for the Texas Board of Pardons and Parole for many years, before starting to work as a pharmaceutical representative. He eventually retired while living in Friendswood.
Bill’s hobbies included boating, fishing, traveling and hunting. He also enjoyed reading numerous books about military conflicts and was fascinated by General Custer’s battles, having visited the site of the Little Bighorn in Montana several times.
Bill’s wife Alice passed away in 2011. He is survived by his son James, grandson Brian Cooper, and great-grandchildren Hudson and Hadleigh Cooper. Other close relatives include his cousin Dr. James Strangmeier who assisted him in later life.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at Forest Park East Cemetery, 21620 Gulf Freeway, Webster, Texas 77598 with Rev. Howard Huhn officiating.

We are saddened by the passing of Bill. He was a good friend to our family for many, many years. We are sorry we didn’t get to see him on his birthday and bring him chocolate chip cookies. 💔 We will miss him. Prayers for his family. 🙏🙏🙏
Bill was an active Ham Radio operator, W5ZAF, which was among his many hobbies. 73 Bill!
Bill was a long time customer of mine,I worked on his computer several times. We connect almost immediately and had lots of great conversations about hunting and such. I was thinking about him about a week ago and just found out he has passed. He was a great guy. I miss our talks.
