In Loving Memory

Ruth Ann Andrews Maxwell

November 12, 1962 – June 23, 2021

Ruth Ann Maxwell, 58, of Pearland, Texas passed away June 23, 2021 near Santa Rosa, New Mexico. She was born on November 12, 1962 to Robert C. Andrews and Rose L. Keyworth Andrews in Houston, Texas.  Ruth attended Almeda School and graduated from Madison High School in 1980.  At the age of 19 she attended Houston Police Cadet Class #102 and graduated in April, 1982.  She began her career with the Houston Police Department, where she later met her loving husband Griff Maxwell.  After ten years she left the Houston Police Department to be a stay at home mom with their children Dennis and Ashley.

She returned to work with the Rice University Police Department from 2003 until she retired in March 2020.  Ruth loved the community orientated police work on the college campus, were she was loved by all the faculty, staff and students.  She was dedicated and treated others kindly with respect, even those she arrested. Anybody who knew Ruth will remember her as being thoughtful and generous in every way and a sensitive person, aware of the needs and feelings of others.

As a child she trusted Jesus to be her savior. She never lost her faith, working gently and praying hard that others would come to the same faith that guided her through life. No doubt, she loved God and she loved people. Ruth is still asking God to guide those she dearly loves, that their life on earth will be a good and joyful life until that day they are united in heaven.

Ruth was preceded in death by her father, Robert Andrews Sr. and two brothers: Roy and Frank Andrews.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Griff Maxwell, son Dennis Maxwell and wife Sydney Maxwell, daughter, Ashley Maxwell, mother-in-law Doris Maxwell Walker and husband Floyd “Bud” Walker and two grandchildren, Johnny and Maverick, mother Rose “Sis” Andrews, siblings Robert Andrews and wife Lisa Andrews, Mary Giering, and James Andrews, sister-in-law Melissa Maxwell Lehrman and husband Howard Lehrman and many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Friends are cordially invited to the visitation with the family on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 A.M. at the Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, Texas 77546 (281) 992-7200 with Rev. Kevin Paszalek officiating.  Interment will follow at the South Park Cemetery in Pearland, Texas.

Pallbearers will include Robert Andrews, James Andrews, Clemente Rodriguez, Mark Ong, Howard Lehrman, Jay Hall, David Rose, Robert Farley and Archie D'-Souza.

There are no words. Just know there are people who love you guys and will be here anytime you need us. If you want to talk, laugh, cry, or scream, we know loss; we know grief. It’s a long process to get to an acceptance of life without precious Ruth. And we are so sad and sorry for the loss of someone so dear to everyone.

    1. Griff, I remember meeting you and Ruth at Beechnut Substation when I was a wide-eyed rookie in 1985. I was involuntarily transferred from Westside when 18G60’s beat became 17E10’s beat. That was the best involuntary transfer that anyone could ever get. You, Ruthie and many others welcomed me into the finest group of Officers I’ve ever had the honor and pleasure of knowing. I can’t thank you both enough for your guidance and helping me learn our craft. I love you guys and please know my door is always open, 24/7.

  9. Griff and Family,
I had the pleasure of meeting Ruth through my work at Rice. Although we worked in different departments, there wasn't a time we crossed paths that we didn't stop and share stories. She always had a big smile and we always laughed together no matter what we were discussing. It was evident she was a very caring person and will always be remembered for her character. Condolences to her friends, co-workers, and family.

  11. Ruth was my long time friend for 30 years with whom I have so many fond memories that I will cherish and hold close in my heart. I met Ruth and her family when both of our boys were in kindergarten then playing baseball together. I was blessed to be her friend. We shared so much from laughter to tears. We spent a lot of time together from birthday and sports parties, working as Mother’s Day out “teachers”, volunteers at Camp Good News and then remaining friends thereafter. Ruth had the kindest and sweetest heart and there was nothing she wouldn’t do for you , with you and give to you. She was very strong and loved her family so much. I will miss her terribly! A piece of my heart has gone to Heaven with her. She was a true beautiful friend leaving a footprint in my heart. I miss you Ruthie and love you so much. You have earned your heavenly wings.

    1. Thank you for sharing 30 years of life alongside Ruth! I was only able to experience Ruth’s Love for a season! Ruth was in glory instantly and she is covering all our pain with her beautiful Angel heavenly wings!❤️
I will keep you in my prayers as we celebrate Ruth!!😇

I remember a cute little blond teen-ager that was always working . Cleaning houses ,whatever it took to "better" herself . Before I knew it you were in Police Academy. You called me and said "CUZ ,WILL YOU COME TO MY GRADUATION " ? I was honored to drive 450 miles that night to see you proudly graduate HPD. I was So proud of my little cousin . We saw each other for all the summer holidays in Llano @ Ma's. Loving the beautiful river with kids running everywhere . Those were the days I will always remember of you and Griff always there enjoying family and friends .
Happiness of Family and love ,things we take for granted until they are gone . I refuse to think of the heart ache of 'Today" . Instead I will remember YOU from Happy Times . I love you Ruthie and no words can describe our feelings of now . You are going HOME , to where we can only imagine the Peace and joy that awaits….Your OLDEST COUSIN ……Willie Keyworth

Griff and family; I know the days to follow will hold many emotions, memories, good and sad. Know your police family will never leave you.
I remember Ruth when I was a rookie Firearms Instructor beginning teaching in Class 102. May the Lord Bless and Keep each of you, giving
you strength to look forward and up to Jesus, knowing Ruth is in no better hands than his. You have much support when you need just a hug, or a private time with a church or police buddy. My prayers for each of you and any thing you need, no matter the hour or place, God and
these police and church families are here. We all feel your pain but rejoice in knowing she is with Jesus.

  25. Mike Gustin, Lovett College Magister

Ruth was kind, positive and brave. At Rice where she and I worked, she came to student meetings with Rice Crispie bars or cookies she made, had many, many warm, casual conversations with students, and she was friends with our shy dog Walter who just passed away late in life. She always greeted my wide Denise and I on the campus and we had many a delightful conversation together. Talking about her bravery, Ruth took an upper level reading-and-discussion-baaed course from Deborah Harter and me called Monster: conceptions and misconceptions of the monstrous in biology, art, literature, and medicine. She did the readings and fully participated in the discussion with us and 30 undergraduates. She brought a different perspective that we loved hearing about. Work demands eventually became too much and she had to leave before the semester ended. She loved her job at Rice and being with students. Ruth was full of life and we will miss her, deeply.

Griff & Family, I know that words fail in the face of bereavement but our hearts are with you . May happy memories bring a measure of comfort and peace. I enjoyed Ruth's sense of humor and she always tried to get me to try her Bacon and Pepsi diet. Ruth will be greatly missed.

  26. My prayers are with you and your family. As a cadet in Class 102, Ruth was remarkable and a lively young cadet. She added much character to our class. We crossed paths again when I promoted and went to Beechnut. The best patrol station of my career May God bless your family while Ruth rests in eternal peace with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
