Norma Francis Barnett, 89, passed from this life on Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at her home in Pearland, TX.
Norma was born on October 19, 1931 in Houston, TX to Isaac Daniel and Woodie Marie Morris Thompson. She attended school from elementary through college in Houston, TX. She married her husband of 72 years, Barclay Vaughn Barnett, on October 24, 1947 immediately after her 16th birthday. Together, they prayed for a child and twelve years after they were married, their only child Tessie was born. After attending Texas Bible College, they evangelized for several years before pastoring in Etoile, Crockett, and Pearland where they built great churches. Their ministry included his preaching, her teaching, their singing, and Tessie playing the keys.
Norma loved reading the Word of God, cooking elaborate Sunday meals, doting on her three grandchildren, and taking care of the love of her life, Barclay. She was a beloved pastor’s wife and brilliant Bible teacher to the church family of First Church of Pearland for many years. Many Bible school students faithfully attended her class, collected her speaking notes, and shared them with many others.
Norma is survived by her husband, Barclay, her daughter, Tessie Gurley and husband Ken of League City, TX, her grandchildren Jared Kendall Gurley and wife Jennifer of Houston, TX, Ashley T’Neil Walea and husband Tyler of Pearland, TX, Kinsie Lauren Johns and husband Ryan of Atlanta, GA, her sisters Marcella Wilhoite and Vonda McClain, as well as eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Woodie Thompson, and her sister Joyce Madden.
Friends are cordially invited to the visitation with the family on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at 5:00 P.M. with the Celebration of Life to follow at 6:00 P.M. at First Church, 1850 E. Broadway St., Pearland, TX 77581 officiated by C.J. Walea, Tyler Walea, Ron Guidroz, and Ken Gurley, followed by a private family interment.
