In Loving Memory

Janice Carolyn Gosnell Poore

October 2, 1930 – July 17, 2021

Janice Carolyn Gosnell Poore was born as Dixie Ray Bloom on October 2, 1930 in Enid, Oklahoma.  She was adopted immediately by her loving parents Frank and Inez Gosnell.  Raised in Enid she attended School there and enjoyed her Camp Fire Girls group and playing the accordion in the Drum and Bugle Corp.  She was also active in church and it was there at a youth event that she met her life-long partner James Ray Poore; they were married March 9, 1947.

By 1963 Janice had four children.  She had been a military wife while her husband was fighting in Korea, attended Business College and had to live in a TB Sanatorium for a period of time when she was diagnosed with Tuberculosis.

In addition to always staying active in her church Janice was also busy with volunteer activities, Scouts, Camp Fire Girls, 4-H and Vacation Bible School.  There were some lean times and Janice sold Avon and prepared taxes to help support the family.  Even with raising her own family, and no matter what their own situation was, Janice and Jim took in numerous family members when help was needed.

Janice moved to Friendswood, Texas in 1975 and remained there for the rest of her life.  She held several jobs during this time; she was also diagnosed with a rare disease called Mastocytosis.  After retirement she had more time for her favorite activities of gardening, reading, quilting and painting.

Staying very busy in her retirement, Janice was committed to her family, church and community.  She served on her neighborhood HOA board for a number of years and volunteered into her 80s assisting with Good News Club at a local elementary school.

Janice passed away July 17, 2021.  Those who had the honor to be touched in some way by Janice will remember her as being a role model, the strength of her family, totally non-judgmental and always providing unconditional love and support.  She will be greatly missed.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, James R Poore Sr. and survived by her four children, James R Poore Jr. (DeeAnn), Liz Cotton (Peter), Larry Poore (Jodi), Carolyn Keane, thirteen grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, July 26, 2021 at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, Texas 77546, (281) 992-7200, with Rev. Trent Henderson officiating.

A reception will be held immediately after the service at the Forest Bend HOA building at 4300 Laura Leigh Dr., Friendswood, Texas 77546 from 3:00 P.M to 5:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Janice's name to the Enid American Legion Argonne Post# 4 at 121 W. Oak Ave., Enid, Oklahoma 73701.

Condolences may be sent to the Poore family in care of Jeter Memorial Funeral Home at www.jeterfuneralhome.com.
