In Loving Memory

Duane "Dusty" L. Duston

November 9, 1934 – April 18, 2021

On Sunday, April 18, 2021, Duane (Dusty) L. Duston, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away at the age of 86.

Dusty was born on November 9, 1934 in Barnes, Kansas.  He graduated from Gadsden High School in Anthony, New Mexico in 1952 and entered the United States Air Force in August 1952.  Upon his honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1956, Dusty enrolled at the University of Idaho. He graduated with an electrical engineering degree in 1960.   In June 1955, Dusty married Neoma Fae Jantz (died August 21, 1987), and together they raised three sons, James, John and Charles.   On November 30, 1996, Dusty married Lucy Trammell-Harris.  Dusty dearly loved and was proud of his seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Dusty retired from NASA after more than 35 years of service.  He loved all the Houston Sports teams, but his favorite was the St Louis Cardinals.  He had a passion for outside activities, especially watching birds and chasing them with his camera.  In retirement he loved traveling with Lucy, sitting by his pond, and feeding and playing with his dog.  Dusty was known for his quick wit and his kind and compassionate spirit.

Dusty was preceded in death by his father, Manley, his mother, Iola, his first wife, Neoma and grandson, Andy.  He is survived by his wife, Lucy, his three sons, James (Karen), John (Laura) and Charles, stepsons Jon (Sharon) and Jak (Kelly), his brother Bruce (Susan), and six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Friends are cordially invited to attend a visitation with the family on Friday, April 23, 2021 at 10:00 A.M., with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 A.M. at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546, (281) 992-7200.  A private burial will follow.

  2. I love you Lucy. Dusty was a wonderful man. He will be missed. Wish I could be with you. Tom and I are taking care of some business Will explain later

  3. I know Dusty will be greatly missed by his family and work friends. I had the distinct pleasure of working with Dusty for ten plus years at NASA. He inspired his work associates with his positive approach to dealing with challenging problems and issues and was a truly outstanding team contributor. He will be missed by many!

  4. Lucy,
Shirley and I send our sincere condolences for your loss of Dusty. I, personally, feel very fortunate to have worked with Dusty during our years of NASA service. Dusty and I retired from NASA together on the same day in 1998. Shirley and I are especially grateful for the good times we had with you and Dusty and other coworkers in our informal "get togethers" outside of the workplace. We send our regrets that we will be unable to attend scheduled services for Dusty, as we now reside up North in Denton, TX, and I have medical tests to undergo on Saturday morning.
    Sincerely, Coy and Shirley Martin

  5. All of the Duston families, Lucy, and all that knew and loved Dusty,
My thoughts and prayers are with you all as you grieve Dusty's passing from this world and while you rejoice in him now being in his eternal home. Uncle Dusty was a gracious man with a charming wit and it was always a joy to spend time with him. The pain of your loss in this world is but for a little while; the joy of eternal life is forever.
    In Christ,
    Patrick D.
