Lillian Ruth Longmire Neves

In Loving Memory

Lillian Ruth Longmire Neves

8/27/1920 - 7/31/2017

Lillian Ruth Longmire Neves passed away peacefully on Monday, July 31, 2017 after a lengthy illness; she was 96 years and 11 months of age.

Ruth was born August 27, 1920 to William Harve and Lizzie May Longmire in Windom, TX.  She was the baby of the family welcomed by two older siblings who were in high school.  Ruth always maintained close ties with the small north Texas farming community where she was raised.

She graduated from North Texas State University with a degree in home economics.  In 1948, she married John Douglas Neves and together they moved to Alvin, TX where they lived and raised their family.

Ruth was a teacher, office manager, antique dealer, Sunday school teacher, scout leader, school volunteer, caring neighbor, and participated in numerous Alvin community events.  She loved sewing and needlework, arts and crafts, cooking and baking cookies, collecting cut glass, growing roses, caring for young children, and spending time with friends and family, especially her two beloved grandsons.  Above all she loved her Lord and Savior and treasured her church family at First United Methodist Church of Alvin where she was a member for 69 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, John D. Neves; son, Doug Neves; son-in-law, Steve Baughman; and sister-in-law and best friend, Doris Hibbert.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Ruth Ann Neves Baughman; grandson, J. Baughman and wife Julie and grandson, Hunter Baughman; great-grandchildren, Tyndall Anne and Wade Stephen Baughman.

The family is eternally grateful to Brookdale Friendswood, A-Med Community Hospice, and Brookdale Hospice for the loving care and attention given to Ruth the last four and a half years.

A private family graveside service will be held.
