Brien Anthony Stears

In Loving Memory

Brien Anthony Stears

2/16/1967 - 3/19/2018

On Monday, March 19, 2018, we said goodbye to Brien Stears (born in Boulder City, Nevada on February 16, 1967), a truly diverse, remarkably intelligent and kind-hearted soul. Brien was preceded in death by his father, Robert Stears and is survived by the center of his world, son Blake Stears; mother Janet Stears; sisters Mimi (husband Ron) Parkerson and Jena (husband Pat) Loescher; nieces Sheridan, Brianna, and Ava Loescher;  nephews Austin and Peyton Parkerson; ex-wife and forever friend, Paula Stears; and constant supporters ex-mother- and father-in-laws Anita and Joe Woods .

With his grand presence, warm smile, and ability to talk intelligently about any and every topic, Brien had an undeniable vibrancy and people were naturally drawn to him. A friend to everyone, he gave kindness to all, but especially to those in need, literally saving more than one soul with his encouraging words of support.

Brien was a highly-respected chemical engineer and Six Sigma Black Belt at Dow Chemical over his 27 year career.  He was a prolific inventor having 9 granted US patents.  He was a key contributor to technologies that were recently recognized with an R&D 100 award and the ICIS award for Most Technologically Significant New Products of the Year in Process/Prototyping. Brien worked steadily since he was 13 years old, beginning at the Woodward Governor company and followed by numerous winters as a junior Ski Patrol.

Brien graduated with honors from Rocky Mountain high school (Fort Collins, Colorado) in 1985. His academic excellence was complimented by his diverse talents: debate team (winning 3rd in state and part of the nationals); girls tennis team manager; men’s tennis (doubles second in state); legion baseball; accomplished guitar and saxophone player; community member of The Coloradoan Newspaper editorial board; and the list goes on. Following high school, Brien was awarded a scholarship to the University of Colorado, where he earned a Chemical Engineering degree in 1989 and where he was a dedicated member of the Sigma Nu fraternity.

Brien would surely say (as he often did and with a tear in his eye), that his greatest accomplishment during his academic and professional years, were the friends he made. Those relationships flourished over the years and encompass the people who remember him the most dearly and fondly still today. To sum it up, “We loved that guy!”

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546, (281) 992-7200 The Rev. James C. McGill officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to the Leukemia Society at https://donate.lls.org or to the local SPCA.

Condolences may be sent to the Stears family in care of Jeter Memorial Funeral Home at www.jeterfuneralhome.com.
