In Loving Memory

Donald Stanley Kern

1/14/1942 - 3/13/2018

Retired Lt. Col. Donald Stanley Kern, 76, of Friendswood, passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2018.  Donald was born at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Houston, TX to parents Lloyd J. Kern and Clara Readler Kern, both deceased.  He graduated from Milby High School and The University of Houston.

Don is survived by his wife of 52 years, Loretta Jean (Aaron) Kern; daughters, Jennifer Kern of Nashville, TN., Megg (Kern) Ragan and husband Stan of Austin, TX; one brother, Ken Kern and wife Charlene of Bellaire, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Don served 26 years in the U.S. Army.  He proudly served his country in Vietnam, Korea, Germany and the United States.

Don was an active member of the Pearland Shooting Club for over 20 years.  He loved hunting and fishing, especially duck hunting with his Labrador retrievers.  Over the years he enjoyed hunting, mainly wild turkey, with his son-in-law near Junction, TX.  He was able to visit his ranch one last time before he passed away.

Don and Jean were members of Friendswood Community Church for 15 years where he served on several committees.  He was an artist, athlete, and he loved working in his garden.  We will surely miss him. He was such a character!

A memorial service will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Monday, March 19, 2018 at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546, (281) 992-7200, with Pastor Jason Seifert officiating.

Condolences may be sent to the Kern family in care of Jeter Memorial Funeral Home at www.jeterfuneralhome.com.
