Alfred Westley OFarrell

In Loving Memory

Alfred Westley OFarrell

6/30/1928 - 2/05/2018

Alfred W. O’Farrell was born on June 30, 1928 in Houston, TX and grew up in Pasadena / Golden Acres area.  He served in the Navy from 1946 – 1948.  When he returned home, Al went to work at Sinclair Refinery in Pasadena, TX.  He married the love of his life, Gerry, in 1950.  In 1952, they had their first child Debby.  They moved to Friendswood in 1954 and physically built their first home in Friendswood together on Melody Lane.  At this home, they had their two boys David and Drew.  Al and Gerry helped organize and build the First Baptist Church of Friendswood where they would attend, serve, and raise their family for many years.  In 1962, Al began working real estate with his brother while still working at the refinery.  Gerry started the first nursery school in Friendswood and Al would come help during lunch.  Eventually, as the real estate business grew, Al was able to stop working at the refinery and work in real estate full time.  The family moved from the house they built on Melody Lane to Windsong where Al custom built their home.  When they moved into this house in 1972, they had their last child, Denise.

Al not only sold real estate but he also helped develop Friendswood. He played an intricate role in forming the city he loved. His footprints can be found everywhere in Friendswood. He developed several subdivisions in Friendswood including Cowards Creek, Pilgrim’s Pointe, Imperial Estates, Wedgewood Village, Windsong, West Friendswood, Field Creek, Mission Estates, to list some.  Al also built custom homes and commercial buildings in the Friendswood area.  He loved the people he worked with and all the people he built for.  He also loved his job and continued to go to the office every day.

He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather.  He was known for his generosity, kindness, hard work, and love for God.  He passed away February 5, 2018 at the age of 89, surrounded by his loved ones.

Alfred is survived by his wife of 67 years, Geraldine O’Farrell, by his children Debby Allen, David and Lori O’Farrell, Drew and Janie O’Farrell, and Denise and Craig Mast.  He is also survived by his grandchildren Jessica and Adrian Ching, Christopher O’Farrell, Dustin and Meredith Allen, Ryan and Hannah O’Farrell, Katie and Graham Travis, Barrett and Codi Allen, Rhys O’Farrell, Tyler O’Farrell, Molly O’Farrell, Julia Mast, Jordan Mast, and Jena Mast.

Friends are cordially invited to attend a visitation with the family from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546, (281) 992-7200.

When I moved to Friendswood in 1976 with my daughter, Heather I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. & Mrs. O'Farrell. I was moving here because of the warm family feel of the community. Debby sold us our home and the friendship began. What a treasure to our lives then and now. We will miss him. May the strength of our Lord be with all of y'all.
