Don Earl Tapper

5/22/1938 - 11/11/2017

Don Earl Tapper, 79, United States Army Ret., died on Veterans Day, November 11, 2017 after a hard fought battle with a lengthy illness.

Don’s love for his country was exceeded only by his love for his family.  He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Heidi; daughter and son in law Lisa and Mark Phelan; son Michael Tapper; son Mark Tapper; daughter Robin Applegate; grandchildren Monica Stokes, Allania Tapper, Torrey Tapper, Chad Tapper, Troy Tapper, Heidi Applegate; great grandchildren Brooklyn, Harper and Kennedy Stokes, Scarlett Lathrop, Kaci and Kinsley Tapper; former daughter in law Connie Tapper; former son in law David Applegate; and brothers Harry and Billy Tapper, and his faithful dog Rocky.  He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Charlotte Tapper, and sister Diane Dean. 

Don was born May 22, 1938 in Detroit, Michigan.  A Vietnam Veteran, he proudly served, with distinction, in the United States Army for 21 years.  After retiring from the Army in 1976, he worked in the maritime industry as a boat captain until 2012.  He was an active member of VFW and the American Legion Post 490. 

A private interment will be held for family and close friends at 9:15 A.M. on Friday, November 17, 2017 at Houston National Cemetery, with Pastor Frank Possert officiating.
