Kenneth Ray McNutt

In Loving Memory

Kenneth Ray McNutt

9/1/1935 - 3/16/2017

“Coach” Kenneth R. McNutt passed away in his home on March 16, 2017. He was loved and cherished by many, and will be missed as much as he was loved.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his father, Delbert McNutt.

He is survived by his mother, Fay McNutt of Comanche; brother Charlie McNutt and wife Betty of, Arlington; partner, Carolyn Olson, of Pearland; son, Scott McNutt and wife Theresa, of Dickinson; daughter, Kim McNutt Moreland and husband David, of San Antonio; daughter, Gay McNutt, of Denton; grandchildren, Sara McNutt, Shae McNutt, Brooke Espinosa and husband Damian, Nathan Moreland, Kristen Garcia and husband Eddie, Shelby Montanaro and husband Rey, and Whitney Crider; numerous great-grandchildren; nephews, Curtis McNutt and Chad McNutt; and niece, Stacy Strain.

In his early years, Mr. McNutt enjoyed deer hunting with close friends and camping with his family. When he wasn’t doing either of these, he was sure to be found on a football field helping to build the lives of the young men he held so near to his heart. His passion for teaching and coaching brought him to retirement from Alvin High School in 1985. He coached in Alvin from 1966-1977 and then accepted a position teaching in the vocational department, from where he retired.

As much as Kenneth loved his job, he loved his family. He had the pleasure of coaching his son Scott, whom he was so proud of. His oldest daughter, Kim surrounded him with grandchildren that proudly called him “Papaw”. Kenneth’s youngest daughter, Gay, honorably followed in his foot- steps and became a coach.

Mr. McNutt completed his life with long time partner and friend, Carolyn Olson.

Mr. McNutt lived to be 81 years old and his loved ones thought his life too short. His life to him was complete.   He could tell a story like no other, and we will miss his stories, but what we will miss the most is the man, and what a man he was!

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 from 3:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. with the memorial service following at 4:00 P.M., at the Jeter Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546 (281) 992-7200, with Pastor Al Perry officiating.

I met Coach McNutt when he was a sub at Harby Junior High. I loved when he was the sub in our classroom. He reminded me of my Dad. My Dad later started to sub at Harby and they quickly became friends. They had a lot in common, grew up in small towns during the 1950's and attended small colleges that belonged to the "Lone Star Conference". They had some good stories. When my Dad passed away, Coach McNutt came to see me when I got back to school. That meant a lot. He will be missed by many. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
